What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that this interesting collection of
"music from and inspired by" the movie is heavy on earthy rock
anthems with emotion-drenched vocals -- all safe for young
ears.
Families can talk about what it means to be inspired by a
movie, book, or story. Families can also discuss if the music
makes you want to watch the movie.
The SPIDER-MAN 2 SOUNDTRACK contains a collection of emotion-drenched rock anthems, performed by an interesting assortment of Sony artists -- including Dashboard Confessionals, Yellowcard, Jet, Hoobastank, Ana, and lostprophets. One of the strongest tracks is lostprophets' "Lucky You" -- an interesting tune, performed with the group's usual high standards intact. The collection ends with two Danny Elfman compositions from the movie: "Spidey Suite" and "Doc Ock Suite."
Notable in its absence on the soundtrack is the wonderful lounge-lizard version of the Spider-Man theme song played at the end of the movie -- or any trace of the tongue-in-cheek humor that made the Spider-Man movies so universally appealing. So if you're looking for a CD that evokes the feeling of actually seeing Spider-Man 2, this doesn't even come close. If, however, you're interested in compilations of ponderous rock & roll by some interesting new artists, go for it. You probably won't be disappointed.
