What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that this CD is great for all ages --
parents won't go nuts listening to it in the car.
Families can talk about how Thomas Newman actually is able to
create a sense of the Australian seas by using unique
instruments (like water and fin) and recurring melodies. And
how does he distinguish (and enhance) the characters -- such as
Nemo, his father Marlin, and forgetful Dory -- through the
music?
Inspired by the variety of plant and animal life in Australian seas, Thomas Newman uses unique instruments (including water and fin) and recurring melodies on the FINDING NEMO SOUNDTRACK to distinguish clownfish tyke Nemo, his anxious father Marlin, and forgetful, cheery Dory. This playfulness extends to minor characters, too, like the fearsome young Darla, identified with a discordant slash of strings straight out of Psycho when she appears. And as he did in the American Beauty soundtrack, Newman unites keyboards and percussion with sparse tones of natural and synthesized instruments to create a dreamy world we've never visited before.
Master composer Newman once again displays his invention and talent in this beautifully scored soundtrack. The music in and of itself is wonderful, but he extends the listening experience to the other senses, somehow creating a feeling of the Australian seas and distinct moods for the characters of the movie.
