What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that this soundtrack album to the
Disney hit television series covers puppy love, partying, and
priorities. Leading a double life is the premise of the TV
series and usually makes for comedic moments. On the album, the
idea is taken a step further so that kids can see that fame and
fortune aren't enough to make a girl happy. There are only a
few songs about romance on the album and these tracks stay
pretty tame, covering relationship roadblocks and crushing on
someone special.
HANNAH MONTANA: VOL. 3 is yet another soundtrack song collection from the hit Disney Channel series. Full of the same high-energy pop rock found on Miley Cyrus' albums and concert compilations, this Cd dares to veer into deeper territory, as Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana questions the value of fame and all its trappings. This internal debate can be heard on tracks like "Mixed Up," "SuperGirl" and "I'm Just a Girl" which finds Hannah singing "The dream got the best of me, in a world that believes fame is everything, so easy to forget what really matters in this life." But things don't become too philosophical. With party dance tracks sprinkled throughout the album, like "It's All Right Here," "Let's Do This" and "Ice Cream Freeze." There's also some familiar material on this album, with "Let's Get Crazy" (from Hannah Montana: The Movie) and "I Wanna Know You," the David Archuleta duet version that appeared on the TV series.
Not another celebrity complaining about fame and how troublesome being famously wealthy can be? On paper and with the current state of the economy, it might seem a bit obnoxious for a millionaire teen to complain about her circumstances in life. But surprisingly enough, Hannah Montana and the voice behind the character, Miley Cyrus, do an admirable job of making an audience empathize with this crazy, albeit privileged life.
Part of the secret lies in the light pop melodies that will instantly improve a mood. Credit also has to go to the team of songwriters (which includes Idol judge Kara DioGuardia) who created irreverent and relevant lines like "So you wanna be just like me, just like me? Snap my fingers, just like that, I don't get what I want, just 'cause I want it." "Ice Cream Freeze (Let's Chill)" should become an instant slumber party classic, while Cyrus' duet with Corbin Bleu, "If We Were a Movie" is a dreamy teen song reminiscent of the days of Grease.
