What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that there is nothing offensive about
this rollicking picture book.
Parents and kids can talk about their own special talents and might even be inspired to stage a family talent show. Or they might want to act out the book, letting each person take the part of his or her favorite barnyard performer.
Common Sense Media Review
This picture book about banyard animals competing in a
talent show is as fun for grown-ups to read as it is for kids
to listen to. Especially for parents who are willing to let
their inner-performer come out and sing along with the cows and
sheep who band.
The illustrations are expressive and energetic, lending loads of personality to the animals and the confused farmer. The type -- big and bold -- is well-suited to the story and the animal's voices are scrawled in a casual, scratchy print making it easy to figure out when they start talking.
Funny footnotes might go over the kids' heads but will have adults chuckling.
And the whole family is sure to root for Duck and his
friends when the time comes to take the stage before the panel
of judges (including one extra-discerning cat). Will it be fame
and glory (and first prize: a trampoline)? Or will it be a box
of chalk for second place?
