What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that this celebrity news tabloid aims its coverage of Hollywood stars squarely at tweens and teens. A spinoff of JustJared.com -- a celebrity news site for adults -- this site keeps tabs on the goings on of a slightly younger set, for example the new shirt worn by High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens while shopping.

Families can talk about how it must feel to be an actor or singer and have the paparazzi follow your every move. Is it right to take photos of Ben Affleck and his daughter when he's picking her up from preschool? Does viewing this site promote a feeding frenzy on the famous that's already out of hand? What does your tween or teen think about the reports of stars getting in trouble with the law?

JUSTJAREDJUNIOR.COM claims to be "the definitive site for teen celeb fans." News, photos, interviews, contests, message boards, and ads (lots of ads) follow the lives of the rich and famous, including movie stars, singers, television actors, and young reality TV stars. Nothing indie or up-and-coming here, though. The celebs featured have the entertainment industry pushing their names, images, and new projects hard from all angles.

Photos of celebrities doing the most mundane activities -- like eating a bag of chips -- dominate this site. But if your tween or teen is celeb obsessed, they'll be able to spend a lot of time here. Otherwise, there's not a lot of depth to the content. Mostly press release stuff ("Taylor Swift to be on CSI!") and discussion about who looks good and who's in trouble. That said, the message boards are quite tame, other than some catty comments about celebs ("I don't like her. Something just makes her seem like a stuck-up person.") and other posters defending their favorite star. There's nothing seriously problematic about the generally harmless content here, but it clearly adds more fuel to the fire that the culture of celebrity obsession isn't good for anyone.
