What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that Brandy's comeback album is a traditional pop album, full of songs about the wonders of love and romance.

Families can talk about how Brandy's music has changed since her last album. Do you think her vocals and songs sound similar to those of her early career? Do you think Brandy should have addressed her personal tragedies more on this album?

HUMAN is Brandy's album debut with her new record label, Epic. It also marks her return to the spotlight after the devastating 2006 car accident that resulted in the death of another motorist. On this, her fifth album, she's assembled a collection of 15 pop songs that talk a lot about the trials of love and a little about growing up and maturing. There's a range of up-tempo tracks and smooth R&B.

Things get off to a rocky start, as Brandy greets listeners with an esoteric discussion of what being human means to her. Her cliched explanation proves she should stick with singing: "Having the freedom to be yourself, not caring what other people think…” But there are some quality tracks to enjoy on the album. "Right Here (Departed)," shows off a mature side of the artist and offers a comforting exploration of loss amidst groovy beats. Her voice is unfaltering, but some songs blend together in a mix of techno beats, echo effects, and cookie-cutter harmonies.
