What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that the content on 3 Doors Down's new
CD is a solid collection of songs about living your dreams and
being yourself. Though resolutely self-absorbed, the lyrics
contain no objectionable content -- and the performances are
powerful.
Families can talk about the song "Let Me Be Myself." What does
that actually mean to you? Do you feel like you have to pretend
to be someone you're not in order to fit in, or are you pretty
comfortable in your own skin?
Once again, the five Mississippi rockers in 3 Doors Down have come up with a lush and powerful collection of rock anthems that revolve around the themes of living your dreams and being yourself. The first single, "It's Not My Time," expresses the intention to fight a downward spin with "This could be the end of me and everything I know/but it's not my time/and I'm not goin.'" Whether applied to a relationship, a math class, or even a life, it's a message worth noting. Thoughtful teens may also respond to the uplifting nudge on "It's the Only One You've Got," a song about making the most of life, no matter what.
As on their other CDs, 3 Doors Down maintain a mood of overwrought emotion; if you like your rock 'n' roll with a touch of whimsy, you won't find it here. But their performances are consistently excellent, and self-serious teens looking for an appropriately intense soundtrack to their lives could do a lot worse.
