What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that this album covers mostly the hurt
and downside of romantic relationships, but never gets too
heavy. And although Duffy sings about passion and desire and
has been compared to the seductive Amy Winehouse, the album's
lyrics are really rather tame and fine for older tweens and
teens.
Families can talk about comparing musical artists. Is it fair
to have to always be judged against someone else? Do you think
musicians are just putting out music that sounds the same to
get that comparison of someone who's already established in the
music biz? Or, do they really have a desire to be original?
Welsh singer-songwriter Duffy's debut album is a 12-track collection alternating between dramatic ballads with temperamental lyrics and bright, reflective tunes written specifically for Duffy to hone her vocal craft.
Duffy delivers a powerful punch with ROCKFERRY -- and those punches should be reserved for the critics who continue to compare her to Joss Stone and Amy Winehouse as she completely sets herself apart from them with this triumphant CD. Whether she's singing about meeting an old lover in "Warwick Avenue" or singing a go-go dance tune in "Mercy", she does it with such expressiveness, it's almost mesmerizing. Not to mention her bold songwriting and the pleasantness of her vocal ability. "Save It For Your Prayers," the album's bonus track, delivers the final blow to produce a knockout.
