What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that this is adventure fantasy with
danger and some violence, including attempts on several lives
and kidnapping. The author's idea of the future includes a flu
outbreak that kills millions and disastrous effects of global
warming.
Families can talk about a whole range of topics: adoption, global warming, epidemics, genetic engineering, and even the importance of family and forgiveness. Why did Molly work so hard to help Micky? What do you think about the author's picture of the future? What other visions of the future have you seen in fantasy books, movies, and video games?
Common Sense Media Review
MOLLY MOON, MICKY MINUS, AND THE MIND MACHINE is the fourth
book in the Molly Moon series and it's a fast-paced, harrowing,
wild ride.
Molly, her best friend Rocky, and her dog Petula go on the hunt to find Molly's twin brother who was kidnapped when he was an infant. The adventure takes the three friends to the past and far into the future where they meet Molly's brother and a host of strange characters.
Georgia Byng has a terrific imagination. The characters, their outfits, how the world looks in the future is so detailed readers will be delighted and horrified at the same time.
There's so much information to absorb yet the quick tempo doesn't give readers much time to pause and really process it. Much like Molly, readers will feel out of sorts and rushed, but will truly enjoy when Molly rises up and meets the challenges that had her on the ropes.
The villains are horrible and ridiculous, Molly's powers have grown, the situations are dangerous, and Molly's brother is nothing like she imagined. A great read.
