What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that the lyrical content on this soundtrack is kid-comfortable, but sophisticated enough for older siblings, and parents will definitely know many of the songs already. Once again, the producers of the third animated Shrek feature have gone out of their way to find a diverse and delightful musical mix.

Families can talk about the use of music in movies, and how the soundtrack affects the action. Do you remember scenes from the movie when you listen to specific songs? How about making up your own stories to go with some of these songs? Families can also discuss whether or not hearing the album will make you want to go out and see the movie and vice versa.

Common Sense Media Review
Fans of the third animated Shrek feature will enjoy this collection of innocuous songs from the movie, and even family members who haven't seen the film will be able to appreciate the musical variety and intelligence of this soundtrack.

Highlights are Macy Gray's "What I Gotta Do," deliciously soulful with a spare, sparkling instrumental arrangement and gorgeous background vocals; and Fergie's surprising ability to fill Ann Wilson's shoes on Heart's "Barracuda." Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas will charm your socks off once again, with "Thank You (Falletin Me Be Mice Elf Again)" -- a joyful, energetic duet.

It's too bad that Justin Timberlake, who played the part of King Arthur in the movie, didn't -- for whatever reason -- join the musical party, but he's hardly missed with Eels ("Royal Pain" and "Losing Streak"), "Do You Remember Rock & Roll Radio?" by the Ramones, Led Zeppelin's classic "Immigrant Song," and Harry Chapin ("Cat's in the Cradle") on board. It's especially delightful to hear "Live and Let Die," by Wings, in the mix. Crank up the volume and enjoy.

Fans will appreciate the other two Shrek soundtracks, and may also like Danny Elfman's Meet the Robinsons or solo albums by any of the artists featured here.
