What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that this tale of babysitting buccaneers is rollicking and inoffensive fun.

Families can talk about the kinds of things babies need and what sort of help a big sibling can offer. They can also talk about how the pirates do a good job and how they don't.

Common Sense Media Review
A follow-up to the popular picture book, I Want to Be a Pirate, this story takes the pirates to brand-new territory. Readers don't need to be familiar with the first book to enjoy the energetic silliness of the sequel. Here the friendly pirates arrive at Jeremy Jacob's house looking for the treasure they left on their last visit -- but first they need to help Jeremy watch his little sister.

The pirates are a sloppy but well-intentioned bunch of louts with peg-legs, eyepatches, and hooks. They look like pirates and speak like pirates, but they're much friendlier than their real-life counterparts and much more amenable to Jeremy Jacob's instructions.

Every kid loves stories where silly grown-ups need practical instruction from a wiser and patient child hero -- that's why there are so many out there. And what could be better than an unruly crew of pirates who obey the wishes of a little boy and his baby sister? The colorful illustrations nicely add to the hilarious chaos of the story. Pirates grin and grimace, fight over teddy bears and diaper the cat, and let themselves be led around by the beard (literally) by a toddling infant.
