What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that this is a danceable, preteen girl-power party on CD. The gentle "Believe in Yourself" message of the title cut performed by Lindsay Lohan never hurts.

Families can talk about the notion of self-esteem and believing in yourself. Is there irony that Lindsay Lohan is delivering this message?

"So you want to change the world? What are you waiting for? Say you're gonna start right now? What are you waiting for?" sings Lindsay Lohan on the CONFESSIONS OF A TEENAGE DRAMA QUEEN SOUNDTRACK CD. Perky fun from beginning to end, this CD delivers one gentle, formulaic message after another. The title cut urges the young listener to "believe in yourself" -- something young girls always need to hear, though the self-conscious tone may get tiresome for anyone over the age of ten. Lindsay Lohan does a fine job on her four songs, earning chutzpah points for braving a Stevie Wonder cover on the "Don't Move on/Living for the City/Changes" medley. The exceptional tracks are "Boom" by fan_3, and "Tomorrow" by Lilix, which features an exceptional vocal performance.

This is appealing bubblegum, a self-contained preteen girl-power dance party. The singing, musicianship, and production are consistently good, bubbling along with no real surprises for the listener. Though this album could get mighty tedious mighty fast for parents and older teens, it's bound to be a lot of fun for preteen girls.
