More Info on Kung Fu Panda

The Story: By day, Po the Panda is but a humble waiter in his father's noodle restaurant. By night he dreams of greatness as a kung fu fighter so fierce, he takes down the enemy with "overexposure to pure awesomeness." A quirk of fate lands Po the unlikely title of Dragon Warrior, and the even unlikelier job of actually learning kung fu and using his gelatinous-ness to defeat the evil Tai Lung.

Good If You Liked: Shrek, Ratatouille, Mulan

Heads Up: Scenes with Tai Lung are dark and foreboding -- especially those early on in the prison. Still, despite the film's kung-fu-ness, there's no epic violence, and the grand finale battle is played mostly for laughs. Po uses the term "sucks" once: "I probably sucked more than anyone in the history of kung fu." He also refers to parts down under as "my tenders" when felled by a crotch shot. The constant riffs on his size seem a bit politically questionable -- but he is a panda. Some parents noted an exasperating use of faux kung fu moves when their kids left the theater. "He keeps 'hi-ya'-ing me" lamented one dad in the lobby. Count on hearing the terms "skadoosh" and "wooshy hold"...a lot.
