# 4 of 5:   How she unwinds

Michelle unwinds by taking her daughters to play dates and sports games. "That tends to relax me. I'm usually doing it with other moms who have been friends, and we gossip and catch up and watch the kids play." She says these every day routines help the girls, too. "We don't pull them out of their world. Our kids thrive on stability and consistency, and they like their routine."

I am really looking forward to the Obama family moving into the White House. Maybe it will take a term or two before the negativists stop their rants. Their rants are built so much on smears & falsehoods. Some make their claims about the matter of pride, but few can specify what about our nation actually makes them proud, especially in non-controversial ways.

I think that would be a valuable exercise for all of us, especially with our children. Make a list of those things in which we can all take pride in our nation. It is one thing to throw that word around; it is another to make it the subject of an honest examination of ourselves & our nation.

My first contribution would be: we are a nation that can admit our mistakes and work to improve ourselves.

I know people are not this ignorant to actually run with a simple statement like that and take it so literally. Michelle and her husband are very successful people so I am sure she is and always have been a proud American citizen. Look at her life, her education, her status before Barack was even in politics was well off, why wouldn't she be proud? America has been good to her. I go to church regularly and I do not share ALL the same views as everyone in my church or as my Bishop. It is ridiculous to say her preacher is a racist and so is she. Usually Preachers are speaking of events, experiences, and awareness to better the community. It is never about hatred. America is fair but, the people in America are not always fair especially to people of color. I am not prejudice but as an African American woman I encounter racism more often than people would imagine in 2008

Some of these comments are pretty harsh. Give the woman a chance and lets see what happens. There is'nt much that can be done at this point. The Obamas have been ELECTED into office and the people have spoken. The media was harsh to both sides. Michelle Obama is the next First Lady and unless you have walked a mile in her shoes...well you know they rest of the story. And remember "If you don't have something nice to say....don't say anything at all!"
