Michelle Obama

# 1 of 5:   Her first priority as a mother

Michelle Obama, wife of Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama, is the mother of two daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7. "My first priority will always be to make sure that our girls are healthy and grounded," she says. "Then I want to help other families get the support they need, not just to survive, but to thrive."

I know people are not this ignorant to actually run with a simple statement like that and take it so literally. Michelle and her husband are very successful people so I am sure she is and always have been a proud American citizen. Look at her life, her education, her status before Barack was even in politics was well off, why wouldn't she be proud? America has been good to her. I go to church regularly and I do not share ALL the same views as everyone in my church or as my Bishop. It is ridiculous to say her preacher is a racist and so is she. Usually Preachers are speaking of events, experiences, and awareness to better the community. It is never about hatred. America is fair but, the people in America are not always fair especially to people of color. I am not prejudice but as an African American woman I encounter racism more often than people would imagine in 2008

Some of these comments are pretty harsh. Give the woman a chance and lets see what happens. There is'nt much that can be done at this point. The Obamas have been ELECTED into office and the people have spoken. The media was harsh to both sides. Michelle Obama is the next First Lady and unless you have walked a mile in her shoes...well you know they rest of the story. And remember "If you don't have something nice to say....don't say anything at all!"

I think it is extremely intolerant of anyone to assume that anyone who has given up a successful private life to assume the unforgiving and highly taxing life of public service that is being the President and First Lady of the United States has anything but the best intentions. More than that, both Barack and Michele Obama have shown publicly the best characteristics of what most of us want to see in successful lives well lived: a devotion to God and country; a strong personal commitment to each other and family; and a proven intelligence and adherence to hard work which all of us should want to see emulated in ourselves and our children. When is America going to stand up again for the importance of intelligence, hard work and brilliant organization skills that get the job done? When are we going to let our kids know that being smart and giving back to your community are totally transformative and worthwhile endeavors?
