Five CDs Kids Really Want This Christmas

High School Musical 2 Disney HSM

The pressure to buy albums for a child can be monumental. Pick the wrong one and your kid can revoke whatever Cool Parent Points you had. Use this list of five hot picks while Christmas shopping to up your chances of picking a winner.

High School Muscial Hits Collection, Boxed Set
Emerging in November, this six-disc set will be on the Christmas list of many an HSM superfan. Featuring the soundtracks from the first two flicks, two discs of live concert performance tracks and another two discs of karaoke versions of favorites like, "Getcha Head in the Game," "What I've Been Looking For," and "Bet on It," this is the must-have set for any aspiring Wildcat.

The Naked Brothers Band, Self-Titled
Nickelodeon's answer to the Partridge Family, these real-life brothers craft kid-friendly pop rock that's just hooky enough to find its way onto grown-up playlists -- try "If That's Not Love" to start. More amazingly, brother Nat and Alex Wolff wrote all but two of this disc's 15 songs. Kids who are big fans of the Nickelodeon show will notice some songs from the show don't appear on the disc, a sure sign to be on the lookout for another album or bonus disc in the future.

The Cheetah Girls, TCG
With their first studio album, The Cheetah Girls are garnering raves from parents and kids alike. Fans of the Disney Channel "Cheetah Girl" movies (and CDs from each) might be let down to see Raven Simone's absence from this album, but strong tracks like "Fuego" and "Who We Are" should squelch any doubts.

Keke Palmer, So Uncool
There's little that's uncool about this breakout star's first album. After starring in "Akeelah and the Bee," Keke Palmer landed parts in "Tyler Perry's Medea'sFamily Reunion" and Disney Channel's "Jump In!" By signing on to do this album, she gets to showcase a voice honed through years of practice in her mother's home recording studio. Tracks like "Footwurkin" and "Keep It Movin'" have catchy beats while songs like "Hood Anthem" carry powerful messages.

Aly & AJ, Insomniatic
These photogenic sisters could go it the easy way, following the bubblegum trail left by their preteen pop forebears. Instead, Aly and AJ are the sole singers on their disc, an effort that's decidedly not overproduced. On several tracks, like "Bullseye" and the title track, the siblings dive into a rockin' sound with a dance feel while "Potential Breakup Song" has a fun, near-disco beat that might get Mom and Dad dancing, too.
