They're useful for my kids. I'll look for them.

My daughter who is 6 loves to read and be read to. We go to the library regularly. All the books listed above are excellent. Also in the comments below i have gone through and requested the books suggested at the library. I usually do that online so when we go to return...we have a stack waiting. Once we find a book we enjoy i also search for others by the same author. Please keep the suggestions coming as we cannot get enough :)

Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type by Doreen Cronan is our family favorite - It's a must read!

My 14-month-old boys love to look at books, and they love it when I read to them. They especially like books that have rhythm and rhyme--these types of books are excellent for language development. My sons' favorite book right now is Barnyard Dance by Sandra Boynton. Her books are great and humorous.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and the other books
by Judith Viorst are also very good childern's books for reading aloud.

My kids love books. My 3 yr old son, Joshua, could read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to me after the second time I read it to him. Books are such a great way to bond with your children and teach them to love words and reading. I let my children see me read everyday and they want me to read to them in turn. We recently bought several Newbery author books and I have been zooming through them with the thoughts of when I will read them to my kids. When you read to your children, the vocabulary they begin using is stellar. Not on this list is the author Andrew Clements, who I highly recommend at this age.

"Where the Wild Things Are" could very well be the best kid's book out there. Nothing inspires imagination and creativity like that book.

I love just picking up some of the classic or not so classic easy to read books for my older children. We have started circle reading, we all pick a book, get in a circle and read out loud to each other. It is quite fun!

My kids and I have read nine out of ten of these. (I think Chicka Chicka Boom Boom came out after they'd learned the alphabet, but I hear that it's a wonderful book!) My kids are a bit older now, 13 and 10 (almost 11), but I still keep our picture book library well stocked, mostly for me! One of our favorites was Rockabye Farm by Diane Johnston Hamm. We also loved Bentley and Egg by William Joyce. When I go to the library without my kids, I try to bring them home Newberry or Printz award winners. Those are almost always big hits at our house. Do others choose books based on award lists?
