Minnie's Polka-Dot Wreath
You'd be hard pressed to name anyone more passionate about polka-dots than Minnie Mouse. Fashioned from paper circles, this craft is a great kid-friendly introduction to wreath-making. While you can certainly cut out circles by hand, using circle paper punches (sold in the scrapbooking section at craft stores) makes the whole process a snap.
You'll need:
- White poster board
- Dinner plate and large saucer or dessert plate to trace around
- Pencil
- Scrapbook or craft paper, different shades and/or patterns of red and white
- Circle paper punches (2 or 3 different sizes)*
- Glue stick
- Green ribbon
*Note: The wreath shown here was made using paper punches that measure 5/8, 1, and 2 inches in diameter.
Instructions:1. Create a poster board ring for the base of the wreath by first tracing around the dinner plate and then placing the saucer or dessert plate in the center of the circle and tracing around it. Cut out the ring. |  |
2. Use the largest paper punch to cut out a bunch of red paper circles. Then help your child glue the red circles onto the poster board base, randomly arranging and overlapping them until the entire ring is covered. |  |
3. Now use the smaller punch(es) to cut out a bunch of white paper polka-dots for your child to randomly glue atop the red paper wreath.
4. Use green ribbon to add a big bow to the bottom of the wreath.
5. To hang your finished wreath, you can simply use pieces of rolled masking tape or tape a string loop hanger to the back.
