Pocahontas Costume
It's Disney's Pocahontas!
Prep Time: 5 hours
You'll Need:
- A long sleeved shirt in a shade to match your child's skin (I used beige)
- A plain shift in a light color to look like suede
- A plain head band to match the shift
- Native American beads (or a beaded necklace)
- 1 small bag
- 2 round medallions with a Native American look (check Michael's craft store)
- An orange scrunchie
- About 3 yards of light brown fringe
- One pair of booties, boots, or socks
- A long black wig
- A small bag of feathers
- 1/2 yard of 1/4 inch elastic
Costume Instructions:
- Pin the fringe in place on the shift in the same pattern I used.
- Sew the fringe to the shift. Time saving tip: If you would like to cut down the time just hot glue it.
- Take some fringe and sew or hot glue it to elastic so you can stretch it over the boot or shoe.
- Sew the beads around the neck of the shirt. (My daughter was very young so I sewed the beads down for safety.) Time Saving Tip: You can just buy an inexpensive necklace if you are not worried about you child swallowing the beads.
- Sew the medallion in place on the shift or stitch it to the necklace.
- Sew or glue the feathers under the medallion.
- Sew some beads, the medallion, and feathers to the headband. Time saving tip: Again, you can just hot glue this.
- Put the costume on and put the scrunchie around the arm. You may need to put a stitch or two in to tighten it.
- Have a Happy Halloween.
