Minnie Mouse on Mars Costume
Disney's Minnie Mouse is ready for an adventure with all of her Clubhouse pals, now that she is dressed as an astronaut complete with helmet and pink polka dot dress and matching bow!
Prep Time: Approximately 1 week
You'll Need:
- Simplicity costume pattern #0534
- 2 yards silver novelty knit fabric
- 2 yards pink novelty knit fabric
- 5 yards piping (both medium and large diameters)
- 1 invisible zipper
- Velcro
- One 12" diameter neckless-edge acrylic globe (found at a lighting supply store)
- 1 Mickey Mouse hat
- Glittery shoes
Costume Instructions:
- Get the Simplicity pattern 0534 and follow the pattern directions.
- I left off all of the vinyl tubing and glow necklaces. Instead of using the templates for planets and stars appliques, I followed the directions but used a compass to draw circles and iron appliqued those instead.
- Also, the pattern calls for boning to be inserted into the piping on the skirt to hold it out. I opted not to put piping at the bottom of the skirt and instead sewed the boning straight onto the inside of the skirt with the exception of 10" in the back because it stood out way too much.
- I used the same technique for the piping to make a tail for Minnie from the silver fabric.
- I followed the directions for cutting out the acrylic globe, but didn't drill holes for the antenna. Instead, I cut the plastic ears from a Mickey Mouse hat off and sewed them to the hood.
- Then I used the same pink fabric from Minnie's dress to make a bow and sewed that between the ears.
- I added sparkly shoes and store-bought Minnie gloves.
- My daughter is 40" tall and I sewed the size 4 on the pattern, which fit pretty well except the dress was too long and loose -- so I took in the side seams, shortened the bodice and shortened the skirt.
