Fairy Godmother's Pumpkin Patch
The Halloween season can be a busy time for fairy godmothers. That's when the pumpkins are ready to harvest and be turned into coaches, or whatever else might be needed at the time. With this fun project, you and your kids can transform assorted plastic deli containers into a magical tabletop pumpkin patch a fairy godmother would be delighted to have at her disposal.
You'll need:
- Waxed paper
- Plastic deli containers (various sizes)
- Orange tissue paper (the kind that doesn't bleed)
- Mod Podge (water base sealer)
- Small foam brush
- Green curling ribbon
- Corks (one for each pumpkin)
- Glue dots
1. Cover your work surface with waxed paper and set the containers upside down on top of it.
2. Cut the tissue paper into a bunch of 2 to 3-inch squares.
| 3. Working with one container at a time, use the foam brush to coat a portion of the plastic with Mod Podge, and press a square of tissue paper onto it. (Don't be afraid to get the sealer on your fingers throughout the process; you can easily wash it off with soap and water when you're done.) Continue painting on sealer and pressing on tissue paper squares, overlapping them, until the outside of the container is completely covered. Cover the rim, too, by rolling the edges of the paper over it and sticking them to the inside of the container. Then brush a coat of sealer on the entire papered surface. |  |
4. Once the sealer has dried, apply a second layer of tissue paper followed by another coat of sealer. Let the pumpkins dry.
5. For each pumpkin, tightly tie a piece of green curling ribbon around the base of a cork. Curl the ends of the ribbon and then use a glue dot to stick the cork in place for the pumpkin stem.
