Pom-pom Songbirds

Pom-pom Song Birds

When Briar Rose went into the forest to pick berries, she confided her wish to meet a tall, handsome prince to her animal friends. Unbeknownst to her, the very prince she dreamt of had fallen into a nearby creek and when he hung up his wet cape to dry, the rabbits and birds absconded with it. All it takes is a few pom-poms and scraps of felt to round up a flock of colorful feathered friends like the songbirds that led Prince Phillip to his destined bride.

For each bird, you'll need:

  • Scissors
  • A scrap of orange felt
  • Sewing needle and thread
  • 2 pom-poms of the same color (1-1/2 inch wide and 1-inch wide)
  • Toothpick
  • Craft glue
  • 2 mini black or brown pom-poms
  • Craft feather
Instructions:

1. Cut a small triangle (about 3/4 inch long and 1/4 inch wide at the base) from the orange felt for the bird's beak.

2. Push the threaded needle up through the center of the larger pompom, leaving a 3-inch tail of thread hanging from the bottom of the pompom. Next push the needle up through the base of the felt beak and then through the center of the smaller pompom. Step 2
3. Now push the needle back down through the centers of the three pieces and cut the thread from the needle, leaving another 3-inch tail. Tie the two thread tails together, knotting them several times. Step 3

4. For the bird's eyes, use the toothpick to apply glue to one side of each mini pom-pom and press them onto the head.

5. Lastly, glue the base of a craft feather to the bottom of the bird.
