Royal Fascinator

Fascinator

Kate Middleton is a fashion trendsetter, and recently she's been spotted in some fabulous fascinators (fancy headpieces made using beads, feathers, and fabric). British women often wear fascinators to weddings and formal events, so have your royal party guests create fancy fascinators of their own design using a wide assortment of ribbons, buttons, feathers, and bows!

You'll need:

  • Felt
  • Wire hair comb (found at craft stores)
  • 12" length satin ribbon
  • Sequin broach, or button
  • Feathers, such as ostrich
  • Two (2) 9" tulle favor circles (found at craft stores)
  • Thread (to match the ribbon)
  • Needle
  • Low-temperature glue gun

EMBELLISHMENTS

Ribbon Flower:

1. Thread your needle and knot the end of the thread. Sew a running stitch along the edge of a 12" piece of ribbon.

2. Pull one end of the thread, gathering the ribbon tightly. Knot the end.

3. Sew the ends of the ribbon together to create a flower.

Tulle Veil:

4. Place two tulle circles on top of each other and fold them in half.

5. Thread the needle and knot the end. Sew a running stitch along the folded end of the tulle.

6. Pull the thread, gathering the tulle at the center.

7. Knot the ends of the thread together.

To Make the Fascinator:

8. Cut two 3" round felt circles. Set one circle aside.

9. Place the wire comb in the center of one circle and sew the comb to the felt using a few simple stitches.

10. Glue the tulle veil to the opposite side of felt opposite the comb.

11. Gather colorful feathers and group them in a way that you find appealing.

12. Glue the feathers to the felt circle that you set aside earlier.

13. Use hot glue to attach the long feathers first, followed by shorter feathers.

14. Glue the ribbon flower over the exposed ends of the feathers.

15. Glue a broach or button into the center of the ribbon flower.

16. Finally, use hot glue to glue the feathered felt circle on top of the circle attached to the comb and veil.

17. Wear your fascinator!

I have just bought fascinators from TheFeatheredHead.com and I guess I will not have trouble wearing them :)
