Here's My Great Green Idea!

As Chairman of the Beautification Advisory Committee for the Town of Miami Lakes, we are putting together a Townwide Earth Day Celebration with the help of all our Town committees's and clubs that will encompass all residents and businesses in our Town. As a Town that recently received Tree City USA designation from the National Arbor Day Foundation, we will be planting a ceremonial tree to mark the kickoff on April 20th. On that day, we are having an expo to highlight businesses and government agencies that promote green initiatives and can handout materials and samples of their products to promote sustainability. We lobbied our school board to encourage all schools to celebrate Earth Day and are encouraging residents to walk their kids to school on April 22nd and use the Town trolley service to dine at restaurants that will be encouraged to have outdoor dining and create signature Earth-friendly dishes. The local schools will hold essay and drawing competitions for the K-8 students and art contestes for the High School students that encourage Earth Friendliness. We will be inviting conservation experts from county government and local universities who will hold public lectures. One of the highlights from the event will be to sell memorial trees for residents to honor a loved one who has passed, by purchasing trees valued at $300, $500, or $1000 to plant at our newest park in Miami Lakes as an effort to add to our 40 year tree canopy and to further impact the community and add to our Town's Park Master Plan.
