The Great Green Challenge

Here's My Great Green Idea!

Wondering around my neighborhood, it bothered me to see things being tossed that I thought still had life.
I started hauling my treasures home. I found an old wooden headboard, and with my husband's help we made it into one cool bench for the patio.
We've saved several benches. For one we designed a new wooden seat, finishing it off with glass door knob finials that were recovered from a house being demolished. With some sanding, priming, and paint, all the benches now sit pretty on the patio and in the yard.
I guess my salvaging has rubbed off on my family. My son saved an old upholstered chair that was being pushed down the stairs at his university. We hauled it home, reupholstered it with some sewing and lots of staples. My husband found an old bunk bed and turned it into a coffee table.
Even small pieces of wood have found new life in cute signs that I use for gifts.
These are just a few of our treasures. The end result is a lot less in the land fills, and considerable enjoyment for us from things that others thought had seen their time.
