The Great Green Challenge

Here's My Great Green Idea!

A couple of years ago, my friend and I started an organization called Greenroom that focuses on creating and endorsing small community based projects to encourage ecological and social justice. After visiting a poverty stricken city in Peru, we felt the urge to do something, anything, the could better the lives of the people living there. The first project we created is called Recycle_4Life. The goal of Recycle_4Life is to encourage community members to collect and donate bottles and cans to us, where we will then recycle the goods, and direct the funds to humanitarian and social causes. We contacted friends, family, schools, and small businesses to raise awareness about our project. Our first goal was to raise enough money to finance the education of three Peruvian children. Within only weeks our first goal was met. For only 100 dollars per child, we were able to provide a year of schooling for three children who previously would have not had the opportunity to go to school. Recycle_4Life is an ongoing project and we have continued to help people around the world with our funds, whether it be an education, food, shelter, etc.
The second project created by Greenroom members is called Siventré. Hand-made goods and recycled products are sold through Siventré to aid in Floresta's (www.floresta.org) aim to reverse poverty in the world and combat deforestation. The first and most popular item that was created were lavender sachets. The sachet's were a hot item! Through purchases and donations within the first month, we were able to send Floresta enough money to plant over one hundred trees! Other items Siventré sells include hand-made bags, vintage earrings, donated unused/unworn clothes, etc.
Future Greenroom projects include community garage sales, art shows, and benefit shows with live musicians, in which all proceeds from activities will be donated to help either other people live better lives or fund green causes.
We believe fully in the saying "Live simply, so that others may simply live!" Greenroom's small community projects have made a big difference in the lives of others!
