Got Bags?

Here's My Great Green Idea!
My mother-in-law and I have been really concerned with the rising cost of oil, and in turn the rising costs of living. We've been discussing ways we all could help to begin the reversal of consumption. We've been over many things, unfortunately most of these things cost more money to put into effect than we are capable of producing. The other day I read in the news how China has stopped their use of plastic bags for groceries in their stores. It seems the manufacturing of plastic bags uses an enormous amount of oil, more than I realized! They are now using, and reusing, mesh bags to shop with. It got me really thinking, I happened to stop the next morning at a yard sale, and lo and behold, found a mesh bag for 50 cents! I promptly bought it, and have been using it ever since in every store I possibly can. Not only does it hold more groceries, it is easier to carry, and I can reuse it hundreds, even thousands of times!
I realize that 1 person is not going to make the price of a barrel of oil drop because of using a mesh bag to shop with, but I know that change has to start somewhere, and perhaps I can start a trend! Plenty of people have asked me about my bag, and each time I explain to them about the vast amount of oil that goes into producing those oh so handy plastic bags, and that I am simply trying in my own small way to make a difference. My mother always told me, "Every little bit counts", and I stand by those words today more than ever.
