Here's My Great Green Idea!

‘Bag Tag' is a proposed initiative to introduce a universal UPC bar code that can be used anytime a customer uses their own bag when shopping at a store. For their effort customers can be rewarded the equivalent price of the "free" store bags. Maximum local stores participation encouraged through a national wide campaign will be the best way to implement this idea on a broader scale.
To promote Bag Tags I intend to use my personal website GreenThing.info (still under construction) and the numerous environmental forums. Citizens of all communities could get involved by convincing their local store manager, companywide representative or local authorities to join the program and reward customer efforts with additional benefits.
Bag Tag can be reproduced on any media which makes it very easy to utilize. Customers or stores can print it on a regular paper and use it during checkout. Bag Tag Barcode can be conveniently used by stores without need of any additional equipment allowing them to determine the amount of the discount they are willing to offer. Using a universal bar code will allow nationwide tracking of the progress of the program and its estimated environmental impact.
Eventual success of the program can convince large corporations to adopt Bag Tag benefits for their customers, thus increasing the momentum of the idea. Bag Tag is a simple, cost-effective way to endorse a Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle initiative and decrease the enormous environmental impact of the shopping bags. It is also an idea with educational potential proving that citizen's actions and awareness is what matters the most.
