Coffee Grounds Recycling Program

The Great Green Challenge
Here's My Great Green Idea!
Like over the 100 million Americans that drink coffee everyday, my wife and I are avid coffee drinkers. Espresso, cappuccino or just a plain old cup of joe is made from coffee grounds. Water goes in the machine and voila, coffee comes out like magic! But, without thinking about it, most people just toss the used grounds and filter into the trash, not realizing it’s recyclable and a great source of nutrients for a variety of flowers and plants.
In my own office of 100, we filter through over 20 pounds a month that goes into the trash as opposed to a garden or flower pot. The average American consume 10 pounds a year! Employees from every major corporation and company all over the country and the world run on coffee, whether it’s through their own coffee machines or a coffee shop. Imagine, the ability to just capture some of that before it goes into the landfill.
My Green Idea will be to setup company and corporate wide coffee grounds recycling programs nationwide using recyclable containers that work just like a paper or plastic bottle recycling container works today. It will sit next to the coffee machine and with a simple flip top lid, will collect pounds of coffee grounds a week that can be used in home gardens or larger landscaping and agricultural applications.
