The Scheppe's -a little recycling goes a long way!

Here's My Great Green Idea!
I had been thinking about recycling for over a year. Everytime I would fill a garbage bag with laundry containers & cans I would feel guilty about filling the landfills and not helping the environment. I finally decided to change, I stopped garbage pick up at our house. I bought 4 bins to separate the recycle items. We have one bin for paper, one for plastic, one for cardboard and one for cans. We also have a basket for batteries and a bag for glass items. We have a burn barrel for the food and other items that cannot be recycled. Since we do not have pick up it forces the whole family to get involved. The kids have been really interested and very surprised to find all the things that can be recycled from shampoo bottles to soup cans. My son helps me to return the recycling when the bins are full. I have only had to go to the dump once in the last 3 months for items that cannot be recycled. I recently checked into the skystream windmill that generates wind power energy. I called our local power company and they said that we could hook it up to their grid but it costs 10,000 so not many people are interested. I talked to a local dealer and he explained that we could put it up and then any times when we are not using the energy like at night or in the day when we are at work and school the wind generated power goes back into the power grid for other people to use. There are only a handfull of people in the area that have one of these according to the dealer. I think if we put one up it will help show people that just one family can help contribute and make a difference.
