The Green Christmas Gift

Here's My Great Green Idea!
For Christmas I decided to make reusable grocery bags as small side gifts for some relatives. Considering I learned how to sew in junior high (20 years ago), I was concerned my skills wouldn't be quite up to par. I picked out a heavier fabric, found a pattern online for the handle design and drug out my Grandma's sewing machine. I made a total of thirteen large bags. I kept three bags for myself (the ones that showed the most sewing inexperience) and gave away the remaining ten bags. I had my five-year-old daughter draw a picture on the ones given to her Grandmas to make them a little more special and personable. The bags were a big hit! One relative was even inspired and is planning on making bags to give away next Christmas!
Estimating that I use five paper bags per weekly grocery trip, I'm saving 260 bags each year. If the other five people used five bags each, it's a total of 1300 bags saved per year! Imagine what the total would be if EVERYONE used them!
