The Great Green Challenge

Here's My Great Green Idea!

My daughter, Amanda is not a typical college student. She has a compost heap in her back yard, she buys her food from a co-operative non-profit farm; she rides her bicycle seven miles a day between home, school, and her county internship. She has a hybrid car for when driving is necessary.

Now in her last semester of college, where she is studying environmental and non-profit issues, she is also planning her summer "green" wedding. The ceremony setting is an organic, sustainable farm. The bridal party has purchased its wedding attire second hand. The invitations, created by a friend of the couple, will be printed on 100% recycled paper. The linens were previously owned, and we will create the decorations and center pieces from materials we already have. We will prepare the entire vegan feast for the guests on site, and any scraps will be fed to the animals on the farm.

Of course, the other half of this equation is Amanda's fiancé, Matt. An important aspect of their bond is that Matt has been just as dedicated to improving the environment from a young age. Together they will certainly be "the change they wish to see in the world."
