Give What You Take

Here's My Great Green Idea!
Lately, I have been trying to explain to my 4 year old that our resources will eventually all be gone if we don't give back something to replace what we have taken. So, in order to show this to her, I have started having her grow things from the seeds of the fruit we eat. Most recently we started planting avocado seeds after we eat them. She sees that there is a good amount of work that goes into it, and reckognizes that from everything we plant, someone will benefit from it. We enjoyed the fruit, and hopefully someone else will enjoy the fruit of our labor. She feels great through this experience and begins to realize that we can only eat today, because someone else before us has done all the hard work. I also learned that if I could help enough people to realize the same thing, we might actually be able to replenish some of our earths resources. Imagine the possibilities! And we don't have to be farmers. I live in an apartment!
