The Great Green Challenge

Here's My Great Green Idea!

It was so easy! The one thing my husband feared most about becoming a parent was the diapers: he had never changed one in his life. From the first day home from the hospital, our children wore cotton diapers, primarily because I thought soft cotton had to be more comfortable than anything else, but then we realized the environmental benefits; now my husband is the biggest cotton diaper proponent. We had a diaper service continuously for about five years (#2 was born before #1 used the toilet), and when we cancelled that time (before #3 was born and we resumed service), our thank-you note from the diaper service said that they had calculated our usage, and we had spared landfills over 5 metric tons of solid waste. That was just from two kids! Can you imagine how much plastic-wrapped waste is in landfills from all the throw-away diapers? -And just the typical FYI: it's super easy with the Velcro wraps (no pins or plastic pants), and no, the nursery was never stinky!
