Candy melt shells make these tacos look real!

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
  • White candy melts, chocolate cake, coconut, food coloring, white frosting (pre-made/canned), red & black jelly beans, chocolate cookies or Oreo cookies,
  1. To make "taco meat" - Prepare chocolate cake mix & bake in 13x9 pan, according to directions on box. You can make a chocolate cake from scratch if you wish. Let cake cool completely. Crumble approximately 1/2 of cake to give the appearance of meat.

  2. For "taco shells" - melt white candy melts in microwave, according to directions on package. Use 1/3 of bag at a time to avoid too much re-heating of melts. Add yellow food coloring to melted candy until it looks the color of a taco shell. Crumble two chocolate cookies(wafer only if using Oreo brand)and add approx. 1/4 tsp. to each bowl of melted candies. Mix. Should look like roasted cornmeal flecks in taco shells.

  3. Pour melted candy on to waxed paper, approx. 1/4 cup. Spread in circular motion to desired size. Place another sheet of waxed paper over candy. Wait 15-30 seconds for candy to begin to set up. Fold candy/paper over a real taco shell so candy can set in the appropriate shape. Do not do this step too soon as the cooling candy will fall away from the 'fold' and your shell will break. Let stand approx. 10 minutes.

  4. For 'lettuce' and 'cheese' add yellow and green food coloring to coconut. Mix until desired color is reached. To make "tomatoes" cut up red jelly beans or maricino cherries to desired size.

  5. Remove wax paper from cooled shells. Add crumbled cake to each shell to desired level. Add lettuce & cheese. Pipe or dollup white frosting for "sour cream" and top with "tomatoes"

  6. Finish off your taco platter with chips and bean dip. Color a small portion of frosting with black/red/yellow food coloring until it looks like refried beans. Top with lettuce, cheese, sour cream & tomatoes. Cut "chips" out of a candy shell.
