Vroom Vroom! This Speedracer car cake will be gobbled up super fast.

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 box of your favorite cake mix (plus, oil, water and eggs according to cake directions)
  • 3 cans of white frosting (I prefer the decorating frosting you can get at craft shops or cake bake supply stores as is a bit firmer, but regular supermarket frosting will do)Red, Yellow and Black Frosting Color (can be purchased at a craft shop or cake supply store but you can always use food coloring)
  • Baking Spray
  • Chocolate Chips ((Tip: I like to add chocolate chips to a cake mix for some extra flavor and texture, so feel free to add chocolate chips if you desire.)
  1. Mix a cake mix according to box directions. Pour into Wilton CARS cake mold that has been sprayed with baking spray and bake. Remove from oven. With a serrated knife, cut off the top of the cake for a flat surface. Cool for ten minutes. Place cookie sheet on top of cake. Flip over and gently jiggle cake until it comes out on sheet. Let cool at least one hour.

  2. Spread a thin layer of white frosting onto the cake and spread all around the cake (on all sides too). This is the "crumb coat." and will prevent cake crumbs from getting in your frosting decoration later on. Put in refrigerator for 5-10 minutes.

  3. Mixing colors: For this cake, you will need red, yellow, black and silver frosting. The steps are the same for making each different color. Estimate how much of each color frosting you will need. Scoop white frosting into a bowl. Dip a toothpick into the frosting color you are making and mix it into the white frosting. Redo this with a clean toothpick as many times as necessary to reach the color that you like.

  4. Decorating the Cake:
For the tires: Snip the tip off a cake decorating bag about an inch from the bottom. Insert a Wilton's #3 tip. Fill the bag with black frosting. You will see outlines for tires on the cake. Pipe a black circle around the tire. Fill this in with smaller circles until there is about a quarter size left in the middle.

  5. Take a new bag with silver frosting and a #3 tip. Drop a small ball of frosting in the middle of the circle. Then make five lines out, in the shape of a star (*).

  6. Red Speedracer "M"
Put red frosting in a decorating bag with a Wilton's #16 tip. At the front of the car, visualize where the "M" should go (you can also take a clean toothpick and lightly draw the "M" in the white frosting). Pipe small red stars touching each other until you have made the shape of the "M"

  7. Yellow and Red Number 5
Put yellow frosting in a decorating bag with a #3 tip. Where the door of the car would be, pipe a yellow number 5. Take the red bag of frosting again and making small star-shaped dots, make a circle around the 5.

  8. The rest of the car:
Fill a new bag with lots of white frosting and a #16 tip. Pipe small white starts touching each other around the whole rest of the car leaving no spots uncovered.

  9. Enjoy! The cake can be refrigerated if necessary.
