Shake up someone's birthday up with a snow globe cake!
- RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
-
- 1 chocolate box cake mix. Ingredients per box instructions w/oil, water and egges. Measure ingredients, mix and bake per box instructions. Buy or make about ~4 cups Buttercreme icing.
Prepare cake pans with baking spray w/flour. I used a gumball machine shaped pan, but two 6" rounds can be cut and shaped to get the same effect. (On my pan, I cut out to remove a 2" section just below the globe to shorten the base to look like a snow globe). Prepare cake batter according to box instructions and bake at 350 F for 35 min. Cool at least 1 hour. Place on a foil covered cake board. Make or buy about 4 cups of buttercreme icing. I used the prepared Rich's brand buttercreme icing. Color the icing. Make about 2 cups blue, 1 cup brown and 1/4 cup white icing and 1/4 cup green and just a small amount of orange and small amount of red. Ice the globe smooth with the blue icing. Ice the base smooth with the brown icing. Roll white fondant and make the snowman w/a cookie cutter. Roll black fondant and cut out a hat. Place snowman on the cake and roll little dots for eyes, mouth & buttons securing with a dot of icing. Pipe small snowflake dots with white icing randomly on globe. Add details: holly & pine branches, nose to the snowman face, add a scarf, "snow" around bottom of globe by the base, add lettering & sprinkle with sanding sugar for sparkle.
