A hilly confection for birthdays or winter parties!

  • 2 cake mixes, any flavor
  • 4 cans white frosting (or make your own! A meringue frosting works very well, but is more time consuming!)
  • pretzel rods (or cereal straws)
  • ice cream cones
  • fruit roll ups
  • toothpickes (or pretzel sticks)
  1. Bake two cakes in desired hill sizes. I used Wilton's Classic Wonder Mold for the larger hill, and a 1.5 quart glass bowl for the smaller hill. Let cool.

  2. Arrange hills close together on base, and frost with white frosting. Smooth a strip to form the ski trail. Build up snowbanks or other small hills with frosting if desired.

  3. Using ice cream cones and pretzel rods, form trees. Break cones to make shorter trees or shrubs, and decorate using green frosting and a star decorating tip. It helps to first apply a thin layer of frosting and let dry. Striping the bag can give a two toned look to the "leaves".

  4. Using toothpicks (or pretzel sticks for a fully edible creation) and fruit roll ups, make flags, skis, poles and finish line. Use teddy grahams or gingerbread men to add characters. Sprinkle cake and trees with confectionary sugar to give the impression of freshly fallen snow (Candles may be used instead of flags for a birthday celebration).
