Devil's food cake covered with green fondant on top of yellow cake with purple icing.
- RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
- (2) 8 inch cake pans
- (1) 13 x 9 cake pans
- Devil's food cake mix
- Fudge icing (ready made)
- Yellow cake mix
- White icing (ready made)
- Wilton's Fondant Icing (24 oz.)Green icing color
- Orange icing color
- Black icing color
- 3 Marshmallows
- 3 long gummy worms
- 2 icecream cones
- Pizza cutter
- Purple icing color
- Bread knife
- Ziplock bag
Make Devil's food cake mix using (2) 8 inch pans.
Make yellow cake mix using (1)13 x 9 pan.
Mix ready made white icing with purple icing color. Use as much or as less of the icing color to get your desired color. Cover yellow cake with purple icing and store in refridgerator.
Place Devil's food cake on wax paper until you place it on top of purple cake. Spread fudge icing on top of bottom cake layer before stacking. Once stacked, cut cake using bread knife to get desired shape of Shrek's head. Spread icing over stacked layers. Spread icing very evenly all around.
To make Shrek's nose, you will use the marshmallows. Place to together for the nostrils and half of the third marshmallow for the bridge of his nose. You can scoop out a bit of marshmallow for the nostrils.
To make Shrek's lips, you will cut 1 long gummy worm in half. Using the bumpy side of the worm, place pieces together for his mouth with a small opening. Now for his laugh lines, place the other worms on either side of his mouth. Do not be afraid to push the worms into the cake a bit.
For Shrek's ears, place 1 icecream cone on each side of his head.
Before you color your fondant, take a small portaion (golf ball size) to use for his eyes. Keep this to the side for later. Now, slowly add your green and orange icing colors to your fondant until you have the desired SHREK color. Follow the fondant box's instructructions. Cover cake and ears with fondant. Cut away excess with pizza cutter. You will need the excess to cover the ears again. Press around lips, cheeks, and nose-GENTLY!
Using leftover portion of (white) fondant, take 2 pinches out to color black. Roll 2 small balls and press down-these are the center parts of Shrek's eyes. Roll out the remainder to make the whites of his eyes. To cut out eyes to the desired look, use scissors or pizza cutter. Place on Shrek's face. Add a touch of water underneath eye parts to get them to stick.
Place coconut in ziplock bag, add black icing color, seal bag, and mix all together using your fingers-this will be his eyebrows. Again, use a touch of water to get eyebrows to stick to Shrek's face.
After both cakes have been decorated, remove Shrek cake from the wax paper and place atop the purple cake. Do this the day you will be serving the cake. You will need an extra set of hands to do this-just in case!
