RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
  • RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
  • 2 white cake mixes baked in a 16 inch square pan
  • 1 white cake mix baked in sports ball pan set, per intructions
  • 1 1/2 cups black tinted buttercream icing
  • 3 1/2 cups terra cotta tinted buttercream icing
  • 5 cups white buttercream icing
  • Dowel stick
  • 8 inch plate or round cake board for ball cake
  • One large rectangle cake board or 18 inch piece of square cardboard covered with foil or parchment paper for square cake
  • Basketball net shaped wire basket with handle removed (I purchased mine in the Easter section of a superstore)
  1. Ice square cake with white icing.

  2. Ice ball cake per instructions provided with pan. (I used black icing instead of the recommended brown.)

  3. Using #12 (terra cotta icing) and #10 (black icing) round tips, make a round ball border on bottom edge of square cake.

  4. Measure depth of cake and cut 4 or 5 pieces of dowel stick to the desired length. Place into square cake to support basket and ball cake.

  5. Using #12 tip, make a zig zag border around top edge of square cake and to make four small basketballs (large balls pushed down to make flat circle) in corners of cake.

  6. Place ball cake carefully into wire basket and place basket on square cake on top of dowel sticks.

  7. Using #5 tip make a squiggly design around top border and side edge of square cake to resemble a net look and for any desired writing and to make lines on 4 small corner basketballs.

  8. Move very carefully! Of course, it could be assembled at desired location later.
