This is an adorable lion cake for the animal loving person in your life! Great for a Jungle, Circus or Animal theme!

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
  • Yellow cake mix (or flavor of your choice)
  • Oil
  • Eggs
  • Water
  • Butter
  • Shortening
  • Vanilla
  • Milk
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Food Coloring
  • Gum Paste (a mix can be found at many hobby stores)
  1. Mix your cake and bake in round cake pans according to the directions. Cool completely. Make your butter cream frosting by beating 1 c. butter with 1 c. shortening. Flavor with 2 t. clear vanilla. Slowly add 8 c. powdered sugar, alternating with 4 T. milk. Beat until light and fluffy. Reserve a small amount of white frosting and tint a small amount red, a small amount brown, and divide the rest into two parts tinting half yellow and half orange.

  2. Mix gum paste according to package directions. Tint a small amount orange and a small amount brown. Form the orange into small circles for the ears. Form the brown into two smaller circles and weting slightly, layer them over the orange circles. These are the ears.

  3. Layer the cakes on a round cake plate. Frost the entire cake with yellow frosting. Using a small round tip, pipe brown eyes and nose on the cake. Using a large round tip, form mounds on the sides of the nose. Using the brown with the small tip pipe the mouth and wiskers. Using a flat tipe add the red tongue. Place the ears on the cake using a small amount of orange frosting as glue. Using a large star tip add the mane around the edges of the cake
