7 layer chocolate cake with buttercream in the shape of a wooden treasure chest

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
  • 7 13x9-inch chocolate cakes
  • 12 cups chocolate buttercream frosting
  • 1/2 lb dark brown fondant
  • 1/4 lb dark gray fondant
  • 1/8 lb light gray fondant
  • 1/8 lb light tan fondant
  • gold shimmer dust
  • silver shimmer dust
  • 1 cup brown royal frosting
  1. A few days ahead of time, make map out of tan fondant, paint with thinned out food color paste.
    Also make lock and rounds out of light gray fondant. Let air dry.

  2. Assemble 7 layers of cake with buttercream frosting between layers, carve edges so top is rounded. Frost entire cake with buttercream. Roll out brown fondant and cut to fit cake. Use sharp edge of knife to texture fondant making it look like wood. Roll out dark gray fondant and cut to make metal bands, put on cake using buttercream. Attach rounds, lock and map with royal frosting, let set.

  3. Paint bands, lock and rounds with silver shimmer dust. Paint rest of cake, excluding map, with gold shimmer dust.
