A picnic on a red and white checkered tablecloth, in the grass with hot dogs, hamburgers, watermelon, fruit & flowers. Plus, uninvited guests: ants!
1 baked 13 x 9 cake
3 cups white frosting
Red fruit leather (10 rolls)
Fruit candy (6 pieces)
3 round, flat cookies
Hamburger candies (2)
Hot dog candies (2)
Watermelon candy (2)
Mini chocolate chips (about 20)
1/4 cup black frosting
Coconut (dyed green with food coloring)
Set aside 1/2 cup of white frosting. Use remaining frosting to frost the 13 x 9 cake. Unroll the fruit leather. Cut into 1 inch squares (you'll need approximatedly 100 squares). An easy way to cut the fruit leather is to place a piece of wax paper on top, so the scissors won't stick. Cut a 1 inch square out of cardboard to use as your pattern. Place fruit leather squares on cake in a grid pattern.
Use the remaining 1/2 cup of white frosting to frost the 3 cookies. Place 2 hamburgers on a cookie. Place 2 hot dogs on another cookie. Place the mini chocolate chips in the watermelon candy, then put them on the last frosted cookie. Place the 3 cookie "plates" on top of the cake. Roll out 3 gumdrops and cut in the shape of a tulip.Roll out a green gumdrop and cut 6 leaves. Place each tulip on a green toothpick with 2 leaves.
Stick the 3 tulips into a large black gumdrop. Place on center of cake. Place the black frosting in a ziploc bag. Cut a very tiny hole in corner and squeeze out 3 small mounds to make an ant on the cake. Pipe 3 little lines for legs. Repeat about 12 times. Press down in middle of a black gumdrop to make a fruit bowl. Add the fruit and place on cake. Add green coconut to base of cake.
