White cake covered in fondant and with fondant and gumpaste Monkeys.

  • 1 cake mix (and all ingredients, any flavor)
  • 1 lb Wilton Fondant (available at craft stores)
  • Gumpaste (recommended but not required)
  • Edible markers
  • Food Coloring
  1. 1 Week in advance, make a headboard by rolling out gumpaste smoothly and cutting with an exacto knife. (Hint: I found a headboard picture in a magazine that I liked and used that as my template). You can either tint the gumpaste brown or paint it with food coloring later.

  2. Several days in advance, make monkeys, girl, and all props (I made books, bubble gum, etc.) Monkeys are basically just a series of different sized balls/ovals of fondant. Practice makes perfect.

  3. Bake the cake in a 9X13 in cake pan. Let cool. Cut cake in half and frost top of one half. Put the other half on top to make the cake 4inches thick.

  4. Color 1/4 the fondant to the color you would like the blanket. Roll out enough to cover the bed. (Hint: you can use different things to make patterns in the blanket)

  5. Frost the cake and cover with fondant. Place monkeys and girls on and around bed. Enjoy!
