Using a doll cake pan, you can create a fiery volcano cake, perfect for a boy's birthday.

  • 2 boxes vanilla cake mix
  • 2 tabs chocolate frosting
  • Red decorator sprinkles
  • Yellow decorator sprinkles
  • 1 bag coconut flakes
  • Green food coloring
  • 5 vanilla wafer cookies
  • Toy dinosaurs and trees
  1. Following the directions on a doll cake pan, bake a cylindrical cake. Remove from pan and let cool. Once cool, slice base of cylinder flat and place on cake board or serving tray with pointed side of the cake up. Cut a hole in the center of the top of the cone to simulate the crater at the top of your volcano. Then cut wedges into the top 2/3rd of the cake wherever you want the lava to flow down the side of the volcano.

  2. With chocolate frosting, frost the entire cake except the crater and volcano flow. Liberally place red sprinkles in the center of the crater and the center of the lava flow. Liberally place yellow sprinkles on the outer edges of the crater and the lava flow.

  3. In a bowl, mix green food coloring into the shredded coconut. In a bag, crumble vanilla wafer cookies. Frost the cake board to simulate the ground, sprinkle with vanilla wafer bits to simulate sand and finally cover with coconut to simulate grass. Stand the dinosaur toys and plastic trees in the grass and along the base of the volcano. Finally, place birthday candles in the crater and in the lava.
