This cake was created for a two year old that loves shoes and puts on mommy's shoes all the time! She was having a "shoe" party. She loved her cake!

  • 1/2 lb. Fondant or Gum paste
  • Clip art of your favorite high heel shoe
  • 10" round board to place cake
  • 5 straws
  • 3" & 6" cut foam plate or piece of card board (for base of cakes)
  • 1 yard of lime green ribbon
  • One cake box recipe of your choice
  • 1 lb powdered sugar
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 2- 6" pans
  • 2-3" pans
  • 4" skewers or toothpicks
  • 1/3 c soft butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 3TBS cream
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • pastry bag with #2 & # 5 tips and coupler (for boarders)
  1. 5 days before:

    Start with finding a clip art of a high heel shoe that you like and cut it out. color 3/4 of your gum paste/fondant lime green. Roll out your gum paste/fondant on a piece of wax paper sprayed lightly with cooking spray. Lay the clip art on top and cut out the shape. Insert the Skewers into the heel and toe of the shoe. Trim with the remaining gum paste/fondant. Leave to dry for 3 days. Peel away wax paper and let dry 2 more days.

  2. 3 days before:
    For the base (optional):
    Make Royal Icing:
    In a bowl of an electric mixer, beat egg whites and 2 tsp water with 1 lb powdered sugar on low speed for 10 minutes until icing is syrup consistency. Remove 3/4 of the royal icing and put it in a sealed container to be colored hot pink. Mix remaining icing on med-high speed for 4 minutes until stiff peaks. Color lime green.

  3. To decorate the optional board:
    With a pastry bag, pipe (#2 tip) the lime green royal icing around the edge of board and trim with ribbon. Pour some of the hot pink icing in the middle and work the icing to the edges. Let dry for at least 2 days.

  4. Make the Icing:
    Blend the butter and 3 cups of powdered sugar together, till creamy. Stir in cream and Vanilla till smooth. Color 3/4 hot pink and 1/4 leave white.

  5. Prepare Cake mix according to directions. Bake in the 6" and 3" cake pans for 20-25 minutes. After cooling, dab a bit of icing on the 3" and 6" cake bases. Assemble cakes, fill and ice the cakes. Place the 6" cake on the prepared cake board or other cake stand with a dollop of icing. Place straws in the 6" cake where the 3" cake will sit (to support). Cut straws to the top of the cake. Place the 3 " cake on top of the straws with a little icing.

  6. To decorate the cake:
    Pipe a boarder around the base of each cake layer with the white icing and a # 5 tip. Insert the high heel shoe with the skewers into the top of the cake... and WOW, you are finished!
