We had a construction party for my son's 1st birthday and I made this cake!

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
  • 2 boxes favorite cake mix
  • 3 cans chocolate frosting
  • cocoa powder
  • chocolate rocks
  • small construction vehicles
  1. Prepare 1 of the cake mixes and bake in a 9x13 pan. Prepare 2nd cake mix and bake some in an 8x8 pan and the rest in three small oven-proof bowls. Let cool completely.

  2. Remove cake from 9x13 pan and frost with chocolate frosting. Remove cakes from bowls and place them upside down along long edge of frosted cake. Frost these "mounds" with chocolate frosting. Cut a "ramp" shape from 8x8 cake and place along side the 9x13 cake to create and "entrance" into the gravel pit. Frost ramp.

  3. Cover two of the mounds with chocolate rocks. I picked out all one color for one mound and used the mixed rocks for another mound to make it look like two piles of different rocks. (You can buy chocolate rocks online. Just search "chocolate rocks" in any search engine. Dust the remaining mound with cocoa powder to make it look like a mound of topsoil. Place rocks along the ramp for truck to drive on.

  4. Make a sign on your computer naming your gravel pit and attach it to two drinking straws. Place sign on cake. Place construction vehicles on cake to make them look like they are working. Enjoy!
