Barn shaped cake with hay piles and animals

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 recipe of icing
  • 1 box cake mix
  • oil, eggs,water
  • small box animal crackers
  • graham crackers
  • red food coloring gel
  • black decorator's gel
  • pink decorator's gel
  • chow mein noodles
  • butterscotch chips
  1. Mix cake per box instructions, bake in a 9x13 cake pan. Let cool for 5 minutes. flip out onto cooling rack, let cool completely. Freeze cake for 30 minutes.
    Meanwhile, you can make the icing for the cake. I use a basic buttercream icing.
    The recipe is as follows:
    1/2 cup margarine, 1/2 cup Crisco shortening. Cream well. Add 1lb. of Powdered Sugar,1tsp. vanilla, 2tbsp. milk. Mix well.
    Reserve 1 cup of icing for white/tint the rest of it red.

  2. Take cake from freezer and put it on your cake board. Then with knife, trim the cake into the siloh and barn shape. Ice all of cake red except for the roof line of the barn and siloh. Then with wide icing knife make vertical stripes on the cake to resemble siding. Then, with star tip add white roof for the barn and siloh.
    Make the hay piles:melt the bag of butterscotch chips in the microwave, dip the chow mein noodles. Dry in piles on waxpaper.

  3. Place two graham crackers on the cake for barn doors. Outline them in white. Place a hay pile above the doors for the hay loft. Then place two more graham's that have been outlined for the loft doors.Place two more hay piles on the cake. Use animal crackers and pipe on black gel to resemble a cow and pink on another to resemble a pig. Place those on the cake by the hay piles.
