Cute baby duck cake on top of a two layer 14" round cake.

  • 5 boxes cake mix. 12 Cups Buttercream icing (follow recipe for 1 batch Buttercream icing) 2 sticks butter, 1 cup crisco (regular, not butter flavor), 2LB bag powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 Tbsp vanilla extract, approx 6 Tbsp milk, mix in stand mixer or with hand mixer until smooth. Makes 3 cups. 2-14" round cake pans. 1 Wilton Duck cake pan. 2-16" round cardboard cake circles-taped together & covered in foil. Pink, yellow, orange & black gel icing colors. Wilton Baby Blocks. 4 Pastry bags, #18 star tip, #3 (need 2) & #5 round tips.
  1. Make cake batter according to package directions. Using two boxes of cake mix for each 14" round cake pan. Bake at 325 for approx 40 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Put the remaining cake batter into the Duck shaped pan and bake according to instructions on duck pan box. Mix some of the pink gel color into approx 9 cups of icing. Make 2 cups of icing yellow. Make 1/4 cup orange icing, 2 Tbsp black. Leave remaining icing white.

  2. Once cakes are done baking, let them cool 10 minutes before removing from pans. Allow cakes to cool completely before icing. May have to trim the tops of the round cakes so that they will be completely flat. Put 1 cake round, top side down, onto foil covered cake boards. Top with pink icing about 1/2 inch thick. Place remaining cake, with top of cake face down. Frost cake with pink icing until smooth. Using a ruler, or other straight edge, make

  3. diagonal indentions into top of iced cake about 1" apart. Put #3 round tip into pastry bag & fill with small amount of pink icing. Pipe icing over the lines. Decorate duck cake according to directions on box. Place duck on top of round cake. Put #5 tip into pastry bag & fill with pink icing, pipe small dots along top & bottom border of cake. Put #3 tip into bag & fill with white icing, pipe tiny dots randomly on side of cake. Place blocks on top.
