Take him back to the store to return the gum and apologize to the manager. Then, ask the police to send an officer to come to your home and talk to your child about stealing...

As soon as I found out, I would march him right back into the store, ask to speak to the manager and make him tell the manager that he stole the gum. I would then explain to him...
